Ganna-Maria Braungardt

Ganna-Maria Braungardt (* 1956 in Crimmitschau ) is a German translator from Russian .

Life

After graduating from high school in East Berlin , Braungardt studied in Rostow and from 1975 to 1980 Russian language and literature at the Voronezh State University . From 1980 to 1985 she was a research assistant at the Central Institute for the History of Literature at the Academy of Sciences in the GDR and from 1985 to 1990 she was a lecturer for Russian literature at the Volk und Welt publishing house . She has been working as a freelance literary translator since 1991. In 2008 she was Translator in Residence of the European College of Translators in Straelen and in 2011 at the Slavic Seminar at the University of Tübingen . Braungardt has translated numerous works by Boris Akunin , Daniil Granin , Lyudmila Ulitzkaja , Polina Daschkowa , Julia Kissina and Swetlana Alexijewitsch . She declined a translation by the writer Sachar Prilepin because of his political activities.
