Garima Arora

Garima Arora (born November 9, 1986 ) is an Indian cook . In November 2018 she became the first Indian woman to be awarded a Michelin star .

life and career

Garima Arora in Mumbai grown and comes from the Punjabi . She initially pursued a career in journalism before becoming a cook.

In 2008 she went to France. She studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and graduated in 2010. She worked with Gordon Ramsay and René Redzepi at Noma in Copenhagen before opening her own restaurant Gaa in Bangkok in April 2017 . The Gaa is a three-story restaurant where modern tasting menus are celebrated using traditional Indian recipes and cooking techniques.

Awards

In November 2018, she and her restaurant were awarded a Michelin star, with Garima Arora being the first Indian chef to receive this award. In March 2019, the Gaa restaurant made its debut on the list of the 50 best restaurants in Asia at number 16, receiving the award for the highest new addition.

In February 2019, she was named Asia's Best Chef of the Year by the 50 best restaurants in the world.

In June 2019, the Gaa restaurant debuted at number 95 in the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world.

In August 2019, Arora Food Forward India started, an initiative that focuses on the future of Indian cuisine. The opening event, which took place in Mumbai on October 17, 2019, brought together the most successful chefs and restaurateurs in the Indian food world.
