The Garkoschke ( Lower Sorbian Górkoška ) is an artificially created lake west of Peitz in the Spree-Neisse district in the state of Brandenburg .
geography
The body of water is located west of the city center and there west of the Ottendorf residential area . The Malxe and the moat of Ottendorf flow to the north and the Hammergraben to the south .
History and use
During the Vistula Ice Age, sand from the Lieberoser Heide was deposited in the area in the form of a dune. With the construction of the Jänschwalde power plant , numerous new residential buildings were built in Peitz in the 1970s. The sand for these buildings was taken from the dune area and formed the Garkoschke from the original extraction point.
The lake is used for recreational purposes in the 21st century. In the southeast area is a wide sandy beach with a gastronomic offer.
