The Garmin G1000 is an integrated avionics system (“glass cockpit”) from Garmin for general aviation aircraft . The Garmin G1000 replaces the conventional instrumentation, parts of which ( artificial horizon , altimeter , airspeed indicator , magnetic compass ) are still available as emergency equipment.

Components

The G1000 consists of the avionics and at least two display units. One, the Primary Flight Display , is used to display the essential flight and attitude parameters , the other, called the multifunction display , shows the position and important data about the aircraft. The exact scope of the components depends on the space available in the cockpit the complexity of the aircraft, e.g. B. whether or not there is an autopilot .

The avionics system is divided into different parts:

  • Primary flight display and multi-function display (MFD): Two 10 or 12 inch large LCD flat screens for displaying the flight data with input elements on the frame of these data entries can be made. In more recent implementations (especially in jets), three displays are used, so each pilot has a primary flight display available, the multifunction display is attached here in the middle. 15-inch MFDs can be installed as an option .
  • GMA Audio Panel : This is where the radios and navigation receivers used by the crew are operated.
  • The GMC Remote Controller is available to simplify the entries for the autopilot, while the GCO Remote Controller simplifies the entries in the flight computer. These two elements are also only found in larger implementations of the G1000 .
  • GRS77 Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) : This is a rotation rate sensor that provides the system with data on the position in space (flight position, direction, changes in position and acceleration forces). The AHRS replaces mechanical gyro platforms .
