Gary Meek

Gary Meek (born March 16, 1961 in Encino , California) is an American smooth jazz musician (saxophone, flute, clarinet, keyboard, composition).

Meek received piano lessons from the age of five; as a student he switched to the clarinet and then to the alto saxophone in high school . 1979/80 he studied in Los Angeles at the Dick Grove School of Music ; then he played mostly in clubs in this city. In 1986 he went on a major international tour with Dionne Warwick . He then became a member of Fourth World , the quartet of Airto Moreira and Flora Purim , with which also recorded; he has also performed with The Gods of Jazz , which included Stanley Clarke , Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock . He then played with Jeff Lorber , who was responsible for producing his portrait album Gary Meek (1991) as well as the follow-up albums Time One (1995) and Good Friends (1997). Meek has also worked on recordings by Sergio Mendes , Frank Gambale , Alphonse Mouzon , Ottmar Liebert , Kal David , Frank Nimsgern , Gregg Karukas , Robby Krieger , David Benoit , Dave Weckl , Kevyn Lettau and The Rippingtons .
