David Raskin (born June 15, 1943 in Chicago , Illinois ), known by his stage name Kal David , is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter .

biography

As a teenager, David Raskin began using the stage name Kal David. In 1962 he founded the band "Kal David and the Exceptions" with Peter Cetera (bass, vocals), Denny Ebert (drums, vocals) and Marty Grebb (saxophone, keyboards, guitar, vocals). Cetera later went on to "The Big Thing," which became the band Chicago , and Grebb joined The Buckinghams .

In 1965 Kal David left the band, which was called Aorta from 1967 . With the guitarist Paul Cotton he formed the group "The Rovin 'Kind", which moved to Los Angeles in 1968 and called itself Illinois Speed ​​Press from then on . The band made two albums in 1969 and 1970.

In the early 1970s Cotton went to Poco , and David formed the band The Fabulous Rhinestones with Harvey Brooks (bass; ex- Electric Flag ) , which settled in Woodstock, New York and released three albums by 1975.

David went back to Los Angeles with his wife, singer Lauri Bono, whom he met in Woodstock. He played in the backing bands of Etta James and Johnny Rivers . In the early 1980s, 1980s, he accompanied John Mayall while recording an album that was only released a decade later. His two solo albums Never a Dull Moment and Double Tuff received good reviews, were commercially successful and attracted numerous television appearances.

In the China Club in Hollywood , the Kal David Band had weekly "Pro-Jam" performances, in which such famous musicians as Stevie Wonder , Bobby Brown , John Entwistle , Larry Carlton , Brian Wilson , Stephen Stills , Joe Walsh , Paul Young , Sam Taylor and Floyd Dixon attended.

In the early 1990s David and Bono moved to Palm Springs, California , where the band "Kal David and the Real Deal" was put together. David hosted the weekly blues radio show "Blue Monday". On July 14, 1998, the couple opened the "Blue Guitar Blues Club", which existed until 2004.

David and Bono continued to tour, performing frequently at BB King's Blues Club in Los Angeles and the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Connecticut .

Award

In 2004, Kal David and Lauri Bono received a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
