Gary Spielbuehler

Gary Michael Spielbuehler (born August 23, 1950 ) is an American football coach .

Life

From 1975 he was a football coach at the Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale , California . From 1977 to 1988 Spielbuehler was assistant coach at Glendale Community College and in this position was responsible for the care of the defense players , the linebackers and the strength training of the players. In 1988 he moved to the coaching staff of California State University, Fullerton and took over the task of supervising the defense, as at Glendale Community College. He stayed there until March 1991. From 1995 to 1999 he also worked at Citrus College in California.

In 1999 he was employed by the Cologne Crocodiles in Germany and was responsible for the defense of Cologne as a coordinator, before joining the coaching staff at the University of La Verne (California) that same year. Then he was head coach of the German second division Magdeburg Virgin Guards until autumn 2002 . For the 2003 season he returned to the Cologne Crocodiles, this time as head coach. From 2005 Spielbuehler worked for the Braunschweig Lions as a defense coordinator. In this role he was at the side of head coach Kent Anderson with the Lower Saxony 2005 and 2006 German champions. In the 2007 season he looked after the Braunschweig team as head coach and this time led them primarily to win the German championship title again, at the end of 2007 they split up.

In 2008 he was head coach of the Stuttgart Scorpions , in December 2008 Spielbuehler was introduced as the new head coach of the Dresden Monarchs . In 2010 and 2012, the Saxons reached the semi-finals in the GFL under Spielbuehler's leadership , in 2013 Dresden became German runner-up, and his term of office ended after the 2013 season. According to the club, the Dresden team experienced its "five most successful years" under Spielbuehler. After the American had worked for the Leverkusen Tornados and then had to take a break due to a back operation, Spielbuehler returned to the football business as assistant coach for the second division Düsseldorf Panther during the 2017 season , and the collaboration ended in spring 2018.
