Gʻazalkent (or Russian Газалкент / Gasalkent , also written Gazalkent ) is a city in the Uzbek province of Tashkent . The city has a population of around 24,700, but this number is likely to be significantly higher today. Gʻazalkent is located on the Tschirtschik River , at the foothills of the Tian Shan Mountains and is about 60 kilometers from the Uzbek capital Tashkent , but is still within its sphere of influence.
The city is the administrative center of the Tumans Boʻstonliq .
The city was laid out during the Soviet period in 1932 and has officially had city charter since 1964. The city's population consists mainly of Uzbeks , Russians , Kazakhs , Tatars, as well as Russian- Germans and Soviet Koreans . The economy in Gʻazalkent is characterized by the manufacturing industry, to a lesser extent tourism also plays a role, which is concentrated in the region around the Tscharwak reservoir. There is also a hydroelectric power station nearby.
