The Moss Landing gas-fired power plant is located near Moss Landing ( Monterey County ) at the mouth of the Elkhorn Slough in Monterey Bay . With an installed capacity of just over 2.5  GW, the power plant is the largest in California. Originally built by PG&E , it now belongs to the Texan Dynegy .

View from the sea side

The first 5 oil-fired blocks with an output of 560 MW each were completed in 1950. In 1995 they went out of service. In 1964, the construction of units 6 and 7 with 750 MW each began. In 2000, two new combined cycle units were built, each with an output of 530 MW, of which 190 MW from the steam and 340 MW from two gas turbines.

The old units 6 & 7 are only operated at the time of greatest electrical consumption in the western USA between June and September.
