The Gasthaus Krone in Bonfeld , a district of Bad Rappenau in northern Baden-Württemberg , is a historic inn on the portal that dates back to 1786 and was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Monument Protection Prize in 2003 after extensive renovation .

history

The inn at Rappenauer Straße 9 in Bonfeld is dated to 1786 on the portal facing the street. The initials IGNW of the then client Johann Georg Nothwang are above the year number . The house could be older in essence and only been rebuilt in 1786, during an era of rich baroque building activity in Bonfeld. In a neighboring building to the right of the Krone , the Gasthaus Zum Lamm had been located at least since 1744 , which existed as an inn until 1836 and as a building until a few years ago.

A brewery was already in operation in the Krone building before 1800 , which is why the house was also known as a beer holding . In addition to a copper kettle with a capacity of 750 liters for beer , there was also a brandy kettle for making schnapps . A beer was served in the house. The Bierhalterei was only given the house name Zur Krone after an inn with the same name closed in the nearby Kirchhausener Strasse in 1843 (it was reopened in 1936 as the Zum green Baum inn ).

The building was owned by the descendants and heirs of Johann Georg Nothwang until the inn was closed. Through the second marriage of the widow of the founder's grandson, the house came into the possession of the sun host Wilhelm Klempp after 1866, among whose brothers there were three other brewers .

The brewery ended in 1936, the inn in 1976. The inn was closed in a decade in which most of the traditional Bonfeld inns closed: Engel 1970, Sonne 1972, Traube 1974, Zum Grünen Baum 1977 and the cafe on Herbststrasse 1980. In In the same period there was only an inn with the restaurant in the sports center, which was completed in 1975.

The group of buildings in Rappenauer Strasse around the Krone fell into disrepair until the late 20th century. Both the gable- facing building to the left of the crown and the eaves-side former Lamm restaurant on the right had been plastered over and only recognizable as a half-timbered building in terms of their structural shape . The historical shape was also impaired by subsequently attached roller shutter boxes and the like.

After a three-year renovation carried out by the new owners, the Brüggemann family, according to plans by the architect Michael Hilbert, in which the facade was largely preserved in its original form, the house was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Monument Protection Prize, which is awarded annually to five objects in 2003. After the neighboring Lamm guest house was demolished, a representative entrance area to the approximately 100 square meter ballroom on the first floor of the Krone was created , the side facade of which can only be seen from Rappenauer Straße after the neighboring building has been demolished. Inside, the inn was restored in the style of 1900, with historical elements such as the floorboards being preserved. Since the renovation, the inn has been operating again.

The historic neighboring building, which adjoins the Gasthaus Krone on the left, was extensively renovated in 2008, whereby its ornate half-timbering was exposed again.
