The Gasthaus Sonne in Niedermühle in the Waldshut district in Baden-Württemberg was a post office , economy and inn.

Location and structure

The inn sun as it is also called in old maps located in Albtal below Dachberg in the district Niedermühle which the Habsburg Urbar and 1383 as Nidren Muli is called the first time. The Gasthaus Sonne was built around 1850 as part of the expansion of Albtalstrasse (1854 to 1859). Whether a previous building already existed is not known, here the old path once led from the St. Blasien monastery ( Kohlweg , 1793) to Etzwihl via the Stieg inn (a courtyard of the monastery in 1392) to Unteralpfen. From the sandstone quarries there followed the delivery of ashlar for the new construction of the St. Blasien monastery via Steinweg (from 1728) which ended with a wooden track at Niedermühle. Around 1900 there were probably some modifications and additions. The building is a two-storey quarry stone building in the style of a Black Forest single- roof house with a vaulted cellar and high entrance at the rear. The guest rooms were furnished with stucco moldings and paneling. In the 1960s, minor modernizations took place. The entire structure is still originally preserved, the large stables were used for storing or changing horses, stagecoaches and wagons. The inn was last run by the Eckert family from 1939 to 1991.
