Rudolf Metz

Rudolf Metz (born June 4, 1923 in Karlsruhe ; † October 18, 1991 ) was a German geologist . His monographs on the geology of the Black Forest also include extensive natural and regional history. He became known to numerous mineral collectors through his excursions.

Life

Rudolf Metz, son of the geographer Friedrich Metz , passed his Abitur in Freiburg in 1942. From 1942 to 1944 he was in the military. After being wounded in 1944, he was in English captivity until 1948. Then he studied in Freiburg and received his doctorate in 1952 under Hans Schneiderhöhn . From 1952 to 1956 he was an assistant at the Mineralogical Institute in Freiburg. Here he worked on petrographic and geological issues. In 1958 he became an assistant at the Geological Institute of the TH Karlsruhe, completed his habilitation in 1971 and was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Karlsruhe in 1983. In 1988 he retired. In 1990 he became an honorary member of the Upper Rhine Geological Association (OGV) .
