history

Weinwirt without a shield (1698–1915)

"Weinwirt without sign" (around 1900)

The restaurant was opened in 1698 as a "Weinwirt ohne Schild" (Weinwirt without a shield), that is, without a shield fair , with the former village house number 8 by Leonhard and Anna Maria Walser. In 1738 Gallus and Anna Walser took over the restaurant, in 1770 Peter and Maria Rädler together with Gallus and Katharina Hitz, née Rädler. In 1806 Franz Josef Hitz took over the restaurant with his wife Magdalena, née Spieler, and in 1836, his son Josef Anton Hitz and his wife Maria Josefa, also née Spieler. After a major fire in 1871, the house was rebuilt in 1872 by master carpenter Johann Georg Reichart. In 1886 Johann Hitz and his wife Maria Agathe, again a born player, took over the wine host.

Gasthof zum Hirschen (1915–1980)

In 1915, during the First World War , daughter Maria Hitz and her husband Georg Gut took over the business and renamed the Weinwirt “ Gasthof zum Hirschen”. In 1916 the farm was closed and the Hirschen-Saal was gradually expanded. After the end of the war, Albert Hörmann and his wife Veronika, née Jäger, took over the inn.

Since the newly married couple Ludwig sen. (1901–1967) and Karoline “Lina” Stöckeler, née Kolb (1907–1982), the inn - now with its own butcher shop - reopened on March 1, 1932, the business is in the hands of the Stöckeler family. The trained master butcher Ludwig sen. ran the business with the help of Anton Zinth sen. (1880–1961), owner of the Post Brewery Weiler in Weiler-Simmerberg , and the bride's father Benedikt Kolb shortly before that. In 1940 a third guest room was added. As Ludwig sen. In 1941 he was drafted into the front , the inn was continued by his wife without a butcher's shop. After the end of the war, soldiers of the French occupying forces of Moroccan origin occupied the house for a few months. Ludwig sen. returned from US captivity in Remagen in bad health, but recovered. Daughter Anna Maria (* 1933) joined the family business at the age of 14 after graduating from school. The inn was expanded for the first time in 1948 and a second time in 1957. Also in 1957 the music hall was expanded on the first floor.

In 1962 Anna Maria and her husband Oskar "Ossi" Alber (* 1935 in Schanzendorf , now the Czech Republic ), and her brother Ludwig Georg Stöckeler (1936–1997) took over the family restaurant. They operated as a civil law company under the name Stöckeler-Alber GbR , Anna Maria ran the butcher's shop. In 1963 the slaughterhouse was expanded. With the marriage of Ludwig Georg Stöckelers in 1964, his wife Cölestine "Cilly", nee. Heidegger (* 1939) joined the family business. In 1966 the butcher's shop was converted, and in 1971 the butcher's shop with stables was added .

Gasthaus zum Hirschen (since 1981)

In 1981 Oskar and Anna Maria Alber left the inn for health reasons. The butcher's shop had to be closed and the house was expanded and rebuilt by the architect Erhard Seelos. Since then, the business has been run as the “Gasthaus zum Hirschen”. On January 1, 1995, Markus Ludwig Stöckeler (* 1965), the older of the two sons of Ludwig Georg and Cölestine Stöckeler, took over the restaurant.
