In 1768 the Austrian Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria stayed with her entourage in the Adler and two years later her youngest daughter Marie Antoinette , who later became Queen of France , stopped there on her bridal voyage from Vienna to Versailles . From October 31 to November 2, 1958, the group 47 writers' association met in the historic inn. At this conference Günter Grass read the first chapter of his as yet unpublished novel The Tin Drum , which made the hitherto unknown author suddenly famous. After the operators had announced the closure of the inn in February 2013, Grass campaigned for it to be preserved.
