Prekaja ( Serbian - Cyrillic Прекаја ) is a village in western Bosnia and Herzegovina . The origin of the village name is not known, it probably comes from the appearance or location of the place.

geography

The village is located in the Opština Drvar in the western part of Bosnia . Prekaja is located 12 km southeast of the town of Drvar on the road to Glamoč .

Prekaja is located on the right bank of the Unac River , which marks the western border of the village; the eastern border is the Klekovača mountain range . The village is surrounded by the mountains Javorova Kosa, Vršina, Kolo and Lauševac. The Sklop and Orlovača mountains separate Prekaja from the village of Župice . From Mokronoga village, Donji Sklop mountain.

Village structure

Prekaja is a scattered settlement that consists of eight parts: Kralji, Podbrina, Prekaja, Vranovica, Mračaj, Kotlina, Župa Pavići and Glavice. The center of the village is the district of Kotlina.

Most of the houses in the village are located along the banks of the river. Only a few houses are at the foot of the mountains around Prekaja. Around the center, are arranged in other parts of the village, some are higher and others lower than the village center. The ends of the village are not far from each other, but there are also houses that are further away.

history

Prekaja is a village populated by Serbs. During the Second World War , the village suffered great damage and devastation, and many Prekaja residents died. There was also great destruction towards the end of the Bosnian War in 1995. At that time, all the inhabitants of Prekaja, which was populated by Serbs , and the other surrounding Serbian villages, as well as the town of Drvar, fled the municipality to the Republika Srpska and Serbia .

Nikola Špirić , former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was born in Prekaja.

The population of Prekaja is predominantly committed to the Serbian Orthodox Church . In the village is the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary , built from 1883 to 1887. The church was restored in 2008 after being damaged in the Bosnian War. The church belongs to the Bihać - Petrovac eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church. There are six cemeteries: Crkvina, Bunarina, Do, Dražica, Grobnica and Župic.

Prekajsko jezero reservoir

A reservoir was built near the village in the second half of the 20th century , which was needed for the Drvar industry . The lake was named Prekajsko jezero . The name of the lake is derived from the village name.
