Gaston Reinig (born November 17, 1956 in Diekirch , Luxembourg ) is a general of Luxembourg.

Life

Military career

After graduating from high school, Gaston Reinig joined the Luxembourg volunteer army as an officer . In 1976 he went to the École Royale Militaire in Brussels, where he successfully graduated in social and military sciences. As an officer he continued his basic studies at the École d'Application de l'Infanterie in Montpellier, which he also successfully completed in 1982. From 1982 to 1998 he held the following positions in the military training center: platoon leader, leader of basic training, infantry company commander, head of personnel and head of logistics.

Since January 28, 2002 he was in command of the military headquarters in Diekirch. On December 31, 2007 he was installed as the successor to the Chief of Staff Colonel Nico Ries and in March 2008 he was promoted to the first general in the history of the Luxembourg military. He held the post of Chief of the General Staff until he was replaced by Mario Daubenfeld at the beginning of 2013.

  • 1983: Forward Air Controller (FAC) and Air Liaison Officer (ALO) course in Fürstenfeldbruck (Germany)
  • 1994: "École d'infanterie" infantry commander training in Arlon (Belgium)
  • 1987: Chief of Staff training (“École d'État-major”) in Compiègne (France)
  • 1991–1992: General staff training at the (“École Supérieure de Guerre Interarmées”) in Paris (France)
  • 1997: “Institut des Hautes Études de Défense Nationale” in Strasbourg (France)
  • 2007: Graduated from the John F. Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge , Massachusetts in National and International Security
