The Brunsbüttel gas turbine power plant is a gas turbine power plant operated by Vattenfall Europe in Brunsbüttel , Schleswig-Holstein .

The power plant consists of four fuel oil- fired gas turbines from the manufacturer Brown Boveri (later ABB, now Alstom ) of the GT13B type, each with an output of 64 MW, which are operated in an open cycle (i.e. without a waste heat boiler ). Two gas turbines are connected to an exhaust stack .

The power plant serves to safeguard the emergency power supply of the neighboring Brunsbüttel nuclear power plant (KKB) in addition to its emergency diesel generator sets , in particular for the black start of the nuclear power plant in the event of a power failure. The gas turbines can also be used to cover peak loads in the power grid. The connection to the transmission network of 50Hertz Transmission takes place at the 380 kV level via the Brunsbüttel switchgear .
