history

On March 6, 1961, the cities of Baden-Baden , Göppingen , Mannheim , Pforzheim , Reutlingen , Stuttgart and Ulm as well as Südwestdeutsche Ferngas AG founded GVS. Other cities and the state of Baden-Württemberg were later added as shareholders . In 2002, EnBW Eni Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH took over the shares in the company, 50% of which were owned by EnBW and Eni.

In order to meet the legal unbundling requirements, the operation of the approx. 2000 km long gas network was outsourced to the then subsidiary GVS Netz . Due to the stricter requirements of the 3rd EU energy regulation package and the amended Energy Industry Act, ownership of the line network has also been with GVS Netz since summer 2011. In order to completely differentiate the network operator from GVS in terms of name and public image, as required by law, GVS Netz changed its name to Terranets BW on March 1, 2012.

With effect from August 6, 2014, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG took over the 50 percent share of the Eni Group, Rome, in EnBW Eni Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH, Stuttgart. The holding company, previously renamed EnBW Gas Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH, was merged with EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG at the end of 2014.

In January 2017, GVS launched the E-Point. Many GVS offers are bundled on this digital platform and made available to customers digitally. For example, natural gas and electricity can be traded on the spot and futures market using Click Services and timetables can be requested.
