The Gaylord Nunatak is a 1500  m (according to the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee 1400  m ) high nunatak in the West Antarctic Ellsworthland . It rises 2.5 km north-northeast of the Schmutzler Nunatak in the south-eastern part of the Grossman Nunatakker .

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) mapped it on the basis of its own surveys and with the help of aerial photographs by the United States Navy between 1961 and 1968 and Landsat satellite images from 1973 to 1974. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1987 after Chauncey L. Gaylord (1921 –1995), USGS cartographer from 1942 to 1976, who worked for many years creating maps of the Antarctic.
