The Schmutzler Nunatak is an approximately 1500 m (according to British data 1400 m ) high nunatak in the West Antarctic Ellsworthland . It rises 2.5 km south-southwest of the Gaylord Nunatak and 1.5 km northwest of the Neff Nunatak in the group of Grossman Nunatakkers .
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) mapped it on the basis of its own surveys and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1965 and 1968. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1987 after Robin A. Schmutzler, USGS cartographer and member of a US-American - British crew surveying the Orville coast from 1977 to 1978.
