The Gaza Strippers were a Founded in 1996, rock band from Chicago .

Band history

After the Didjits disbanded in 1994, their singer Rick Sims initially concentrated on his side project, the Lee Harvey Oswald Band , and joined the Supersuckers . In 1996, after he got out of there again, he founded his own new band, the Gaza Strippers, together with bassist Darren Hooper, with whom he claims to sound like Thin Lizzy and Queen , which required two guitarists. Hooper and Sims had met when Hooper, attending a Supersuckers show, went backstage with a friend to apologize after being hit in the head by a whiskey bottle thrown off the stage.

The band fired the first musician to take on the position of second guitarist shortly after their formation, and the first drummer soon left the group, as did the second. They were replaced by Mike Hodgkiss and Mark Allen, which should prove to be a stable formation.

The group's first single was released in 1997, and their debut album Laced Candy in 1999 , which was released by Man's Ruin Records . After the release of the third album 1000 Watt Confessions , the band went on a European tour for the first time, where they acted as the opening act for Gluecifer .

The band's last album to date, From the Desk of Dr Freepill , was released on the Italian label Nicotine in 2002 and was initially not available on a regular basis in America. In addition to some original compositions, there are also three cover songs on this work: Me 262 by Blue Öyster Cult , Shear Heart Attack by Queen and Yin and Yang by Love and Rockets . The European tour following the release was played by the Gaza Strippers together with the Hellacopters and the Datsuns . Frontman Sims flew back to America after seven of these shows, where his wife gave birth to twins earlier than expected. The remaining shows on the tour were played by the Gaza Strippers, with the band members and musicians from the Datsuns and the Hellacopters Sims job splitting.

The Gaza Strippers have been on hold for several years now and some of the members are otherwise musically busy: bassist Hodgkiss joined Urge Overkill and Sims occasionally played reunion shows with the didjits.
