Love and Rockets was a British alternative band that was founded in 1985 by former members of Bauhaus and dissolved for the first time in 1999 and finally dissolved in 2009. They also appeared under the pseudonym The Bubblemen .

history

The time between the Bauhaus and the founding of the band

After the Bauhaus band split up in 1983, the members pursued various projects. While singer Peter Murphy started a solo career, Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins played in the band Tones On Tail from 1982 to 1984 .

1985 to 1999

In 1985 Ash, Haskins and J teamed up to form Love and Rockets . The group was named after the comic series of the same name by Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez .

On the first four albums, the musicians consistently moved away from the Gothic Rock image for which Bauhaus was trend-setting. Their first hit Ball of Confusion , a cover of the Motown classic by the Temptations, was characteristic of this . Influences of different styles like psychedelic rock , post-punk , glam rock and folk initially determined her music.

In 1989 they had their big breakthrough with So Alive from their album Love and Rockets . The single reached number 3 on the charts in the United States and was a hit in many countries. After extensive touring, they recorded the album Hot Trip to Heaven three years later , on which they developed away from rock in the early years towards more electronic influences. During the recording of the following album Sweet FA in April 1995 , a fire broke out in the house of Rick Rubin , where the band lived and worked during the recording. The musicians were not injured, but the visiting musician friend Genesis P-Orridge suffered serious burns in the incident. After a long legal battle, the musicians were confirmed to be innocent in the outbreak of the fire. The last album, Lift , was released in 1998 , and in 1999 the group broke up. Meanwhile, there had been a comeback of Bauhaus given.

Reunification 2007

In October 2007 the band announced on their MySpace page that they wanted to reunite for the recording of a song and two performances. In 2008 more concerts followed in the United States. In 2009, Daniel Ash announced in an interview that there were no plans for further collaboration.

In 2009 a tribute album called New Tales to Tell was released with contributions from Black Francis , Blaqk Audio , The Dandy Warhols , The Flaming Lips and Monster Magnet, among others .
