biography

Daniel Ash started playing guitar at the age of 15. Together with three other art students whom he had known since childhood and youth, he founded the Bauhaus group in 1978. The release of the first single Bela Lugosi's Dead is considered to be the birth of Gothic Rock and Dark Wave . As a result, Ash's constant development of previously unknown guitar sounds had a style-defining effect, as he neither wanted to learn standards nor sound like someone else before:

"I had no interest in that, I wanted to go the opposite way, kind of like the original Bauhaus art movement if you like, which was very simplistic and functional but not excessive."
