Gazi was recognized as a rural community (kinotita) in 1963 and in 1997, after numerous neighboring towns were incorporated, it was raised to the status of an urban community (dimos) . On January 1, 2011, Gazi was merged with the municipalities of Krousonas and Tylisos to form the new municipality of Malevizi on the basis of the Kallikratis law from 2010 , where it has since formed a municipality.
