Gazmend Friday
Gazmend Freitag (born May 25, 1968 in Pataçani i Poshtëm ) is an Albanian painter from Kosovo .
Life
Gazmend Freitag was born as the third child of his parents Qamile Mustafa (née Gashi) and Asllan Mustafa and developed an affinity for art as a child. He graduated from high school in Prizren and enrolled at the Law Faculty of the University of Pristina in 1988 . After the first two semesters, however, studies almost came to a standstill due to the war , and Albanians were refused entry to the university. Gazmend then joined the Albanian student protests in 1989.
In 1990 he decided to flee to Baden-Württemberg . Since 2004 he has lived and worked as a painter in Linz, Austria . In 2013/14 he took nude drawing as a university course with Annelies Oberdanner at the Art University Linz . He gained international fame while participating in the 1st Biennale of Creativity in Verona , Italy in 2014. His work Baresha is part of the exhibition catalog with an art review and a biography in English and Italian. Since 2014 he has been a member of ::: kunstprojekte ::: in Vienna. Since 2015 he has been an illustrator at Axiomy Verlag in Königstein, Germany.

Gazmend Freitag is a nude, portrait and landscape painter. He mainly uses the techniques of oil painting and makes drawings and graphics with pencil , chalk and ink . He deals with the human figure, especially with depictions of women. The landscapes show motifs from his native Kosovo , but also from his new home in Linz and other places in France and Italy . Freitag made numerous portraits of famous Albanian personalities, but also of people with whom he is connected as an artist - such as other visual artists, writers, musicians and publishers. His works belong to the styles of impressionism and expressionism in a contemporary implementation. On canvas, especially in his portraits, he expresses emotions that he observes in his environment and opens up new stylistic dimensions. In addition, he offers his reconstruction of reality and emphasizes the peculiarity of the faces he portrays. His compositional syntax follows the rules of art theory and is supplemented with considerations that emphasize the romantic.
The art of Gazmend Freitag is closely linked to his experiences as a Kosovar Albanian in the diaspora, who had to share the fate of being expelled from his home country with the many refugees of the present. But his biography is also an example of the successful integration of a sensitive artistic personality with an extremely positive attitude towards life. It goes without saying for him to communicate with many people through his works.
