Gebhard Quinger

Friedrich Gebhard Quinger (born August 26, 1919 in Würzburg ; † March 24, 2012 ) was a German peasant functionary.

Life

Quinger grew up on the Keesburg , which also owned a winery. During the Second World War he was a fighter pilot in the Air Force and towards the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was able to escape.

He studied agriculture at the Stuttgart-Hohenheim University of Applied Sciences and then entered the civil service at the Württemberg-Hohenzollern Ministry of Agriculture. In 1950 he came to the Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV). He initially worked in the agricultural policy department in the association's general secretariat. In 1953 he took over the management of the Bavarian Farmer's School in Herrsching am Ammersee, from which, under his direction, in 1976 the BBV educational institution was merged with the Farmer's School. The school developed into a trademark for pioneering educational work for rural areas. Quinger's students included Gerd Sonnleitner , President of the German and Bavarian Farmers' Association from 1991 to 2012.

In addition to his educational work, Quinger set up the department for organization and public relations in the general secretariat of the Bavarian Farmers' Association. In 1970 he was appointed Deputy Secretary General. From 1973 to 1982 he was Secretary General. During this time he gave decisive impulses for the Bavarian Agricultural Promotion Act. As Secretary General, he also took particular care of adult education work. He was also on the board of LVM.

Since 1946 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Carolingia Hohenheim.

Honors

For his services he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit . He was also awarded the Bavarian State Medal in Gold on July 22, 1982 for his services to Bavarian agriculture. He was also the recipient of the Max Schönleuthner Medal from the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan and the Andreas Hermes Medal from the German Farmers' Association .
