Gebhard of Brandenburg

Gebhard von Brandenburg (also Gebhardt ; † April 11, 1287 ) was Bishop of Brandenburg from 1278 to 1287 . He belonged to the Premonstratensian Order .

Life

Gebhard von Brandenburg was elected the new Bishop of Brandenburg by the Brandenburg and Leitzkau chapters. The beginning of his pontificate is between June 19, 1278 and January 11, 1279. Before his first return trip from Bohemia to Brandenburg , Gebhard was appointed deputy governor in Bohemia at the end of May / beginning of June 1279 by Margrave Otto V. At the end of August of the same year he was appointed deputy governor for the second time before Margrave Otto V returned to Brandenburg for the second time. As deputy governor, he drew the hatred of the people of Bohemia. In the course of 1280 he lost this post. There is evidence of Gebhard von Brandenburg's stays in Kyritz on January 9, 1280 and in Berlin on August 18, 1280. On October 6, 1281 he was demonstrably staying in Magdeburg .

From 1282 to mid-1284 he stayed with the Pope in Orvieto in Italy . He then returned to his diocese in Brandenburg, where he was mentioned in a document on September 9, 1284. On May 25, 1285 he stayed again in Orvieto with the Pope. From March 13 to March 21, 1287 he was demonstrably in Würzburg, where he took part in the National Council, which was opened on March 16, 1287 by the papal legate Johann von Frascati . Gebhard von Brandenburg died on April 11, 1287 and was buried in the Brandenburg Cathedral .
