from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gediminas Juzeliūnas (born July 14, 1958 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian physicist in the field of quantum optics and condensed matter physics . He is currently director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics and Astronomy and professor at Vilnius University .

Life

After graduating from the Antanas Vienuolis Middle School , Gediminas Juzeliūnas completed a degree in physics from 1976 to 1981 at the Vilniaus universitetas (VU). He then received his doctorate and habilitation in physics in 2000. From 1989 to 1990 he worked at the Physics Institute of the Lietuvos mokslų akademija . From 1990 he worked for VU. from 1997 to 1998, 1999 and 2000 he continued his education at Ulm University . From 2008 he taught as a professor at the chair for theoretical physics and computer science at the Vilniaus pedagoginis universitetas .

His main areas of work are optics and spectroscopy of condensed matter, quantum optics and nonlinear optics, theory of excitons and polaritons , Bose-Einstein condensates and atomic gas physics. Gediminas Juzeliūnas developed a polariton method for describing the quantization of electromagnetic radiation in interaction with solid-state excitations. He used this method for the research of slow light in the gas of the cold atoms. Juzeliūnas has more than 50 scientific publications. As the senior researcher, he heads the Quantum Optics Group research group at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at VU.

Juzeliūnas received a grant from the Humboldt Foundation and a Fulbright grant .

family

His father was a composer, musicologist , music teacher and professor Julius Juzeliūnas (1916–2001).

Gediminas Juzeliūnas is married. His wife Ona Juzeliūnienė (* 1962) is a cosmetologist. They have daughters Eglė Juzeliūnaitė (* 1985), Paulė Juzeliūnaitė (* 1987) and Emilija Juzeliūnaitė (* 1996).
