Gleno prison

The prison in Gleno ( Portuguese Prisão de Gleno ) is one of two currently operating prisons of East Timor , in addition to the prison Becora .

The prison is located in Suco Fatuquero on Rua Aldeia Palimano; Not as the name suggests, in Gleno , the parish capital . Both male and female prisoners are housed in the prison. The women are in their own block. The Nossa Senhora de Fátima chapel is also located in the prison .

In April 2015, MP Paulino Monteiro Soares Babo ( PD ) in the East Timorese national parliament criticized that only 35 guards were guarding 85 prisoners in Gleno prison. Prison director Nito dos Santos confirmed the deficiency but said it would not affect the work of the guards. Justice Minister Ivo Jorge Valente announced an improvement in the situation.

  • Stacey Addison: American Stacey Addison was in a car with a drug smuggler when she entered from Indonesia . All occupants of the car were arrested. It was several months before she was released.
