The yellow wire Blue Arrow ( Orthetrum nitidinerve ) is a dragonfly from the family of libellulidae (Libellulidae).
features
The Gelbader blue arrow has a wingspan of eight to nine centimeters. The wings have a yellow longitudinal vein that extends from the base of the wing to the node and from which numerous yellow transverse veins extend. The yellow-gold wing mark (pterostigma) is four to five millimeters long, on the other hand in other blue arrow species it is significantly smaller (approx. 3 mm). The body of the males is blue.
Similar species
This species is easy to confuse with other Orthetrum species, especially the southern blue arrow ( Orthetrum brunneum ) or the small blue arrow ( Orthetrum coerulescens ).
Way of life
Little is known about their behavior, but it is likely to be the same as with the other Orthetrum species. The animals do not stray far from their waters. The flight time ranges from April to October.
habitat
The Gelbader blue arrow is very common in North Africa , in Europe the species occurs only on the Iberian Peninsula , on Sardinia , near Naples and on Sicily . It colonizes waters up to a height of 2000 meters.
Reproduction
The larvae develop at the bottom of standing and flowing water, preferably in arid regions.
