Timotheus Compenius
Timotheus Compenius (* around 1550, † around 1608) was a German organist and organ builder .
Life
Timotheus Compenius was born as the son of the organ builder Heinrich Compenius the Elder and brother of the famous Esaias Compenius the Elder . In older literature he is referred to as Heinrich's brother, but his ancestry has now been proven. In 1585 he became organist in Staffelstein and married there. Since his collaboration in building his father's new organ in Fritzlar (1588), he has worked as an organ builder. In 1597/1598 he had to give up his position as a Protestant church musician in the course of the Counter-Reformation in Staffelstein and moved to Königsberg in Bavaria , where he is proven until 1608.
Like his brother Esaias, Timothy preferred the sliding ark over the spring ark. In 1597 he wrote the text Local Specification and Listings for the Contraction of the Various Registers , a guide to registration.
