Gennadi Jurjewitsch Prokopenko ( Russian Геннадий Юрьевич Прокопенко , scientific transliteration Gennadij Jur'evič Prokopenko ; born January 18, 1964 in Perm ) is a former Soviet ski jumper .

Career

Prokopenko jumped for the first time in the Ski Jumping World Cup on December 30, 1981 for the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament 1981/82 in Oberstdorf . However, he was unsuccessful. He achieved his best result with 19th place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 Prokopenko reached 49th place on the normal hill and 18th place on the large hill.

For the following season 1982/83 he only went to one jumping. At the end of the season in Planica he was able to win World Cup points for the first time with a 12th place on the large hill.

At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , Prokopenko came 26th on the normal hill and 30th on the large hill.

At the first World Cup competition after the Olympics he reached the Finnish Lahti his career with the 5th highest single result. It was also the only result in the top ten that he ever achieved. At the end of the 1983/84 season he finished 51st, the best result of his career in the overall World Cup standings. In the following season he went again to the Four Hills Tournament 1984/85 , but could only jump into the points in Oberstdorf .

With the participation in the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol , he ended his active ski jumping career. He reached 32nd place on the normal hill and 18th place on the large hill.
