Gennaro Cassiani
Gennaro Cassiani (born September 13, 1903 in Spezzano Albanese , Cosenza province , Calabria ; † July 14, 1978 ) was an Italian politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), who was 1945 to 1946 member of the National Convention ( Consulta Nazionale ) , between 1946 and 1948 Member of the Constituent Assembly ( Assemblea Costituente ) and from 1948 to 1968 a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) . He temporarily held ministerial offices and was most recently a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) between 1968 and 1976 .
Life
Cassani completed a law degree after attending school and then worked as a lawyer .
After the end of the Second World War , he was sent on April 5, 1945 for the Democrazia Cristiana as a member of the National Convention (Consulta Nazionale) . On December 14, 1945 he took over his first government office when he was appointed by Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance (Sottosegretario di Stati al Lavoro e Previdenza Sociale) in its first cabinet . He continued in this function in the Cabinet De Gasperi II until February 2, 1947. The first elections on June 2, 1946 , he was for the DC in the constituency XXVIII Catanzaro member of the Constituent Assembly (Assemblea Costituente) elected until he became January 31, 1948. In the elections of April 18, 1948 , he finally became a member of the Chamber of Deputies (Camera dei Deputati) for the first time , in which he represented the interests of the Province of Catanzaro for more than twenty years until June 4, 1968 .
In the fifth cabinet of De Gasperi he served between May 27, 1948 and January 27, 1950 as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Justice (Sottosegratario di Stato alla Giustizia) and later from July 27, 1951 to January 18, 1954 as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of the Treasury (Sottosegretario di Stato al Tesoro) in the seventh , eighth cabinet of De Gasperi and in the cabinet of Pella , where he was responsible for war damage in the seventh cabinet of De Gasperi between July 27, 1951 and July 16, 1953.
Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani appointed Cassiani on January 18, 1954 in his first cabinet in his first ministerial office, namely as Minister for Post and Telecommunications (Minstro delle Poste e Telecomunicazioni) . He held this ministerial office until July 6, 1955 in the Scelba cabinet . He was then between July 6, 1955 and July 1, 1958 Minister for the Merchant Navy (Ministro della Marina Mercantile) in the first Segni cabinet and in the Zoli cabinet . During the third legislative period he was on September 30, 1960 and May 15, 1963 Chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.
Shortly before leaving the Chamber of Deputies, Cassiani was elected a member of the Senate (Senato della Repubblica) for the DC in the elections of April 19, 1968 , where he represented the interests of the Calabria region until July 4, 1976 . At the beginning of this fifth legislative period he was between July 24, 1968 and February 24, 1972 chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Justice. Subsequently, from February 17 to June 24, 1972, he again held the office of Minister for the Merchant Navy in the first Andreotti cabinet .
