Parliamentary elections in Italy in 1968
The 1968 parliamentary elections took place on May 19-20 , 1968 . They were the sixth after the end of World War II and the introduction of universal male and female suffrage. All 630 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 315 of 322 seats in the Senate were elected .
Since 1962 and 1963 the DC under Aldo Moro struck a center-left coalition with the inclusion of the socialists . In terms of government responsibility, the latter now embarked on a completely social-democratic course - as a result, they entered into an electoral alliance with the social democrats , whereby the left wing of the socialists split off and stood for election under the name Partito Socialista Italiano di Unità Proletaria (Italian Socialist Party of Proletarian Unity) started.
The choice also fell at the time of the burgeoning student protests, which were particularly strong in Italy. The communists proved incapable of integrating this protest potential and connecting it to the labor movement.
