Gains and losses
The 1987 general election took place on June 14th and 15th, 1987 . They were the eleventh after the end of World War II and the introduction of universal male and female suffrage. Until mid-April 1987, the Socialists (PSI) appointed the President of the Council of Ministers . The successor government was Amintore Fanfani from the Christian Democracy Party (DC). After Fanfani lost a vote of confidence in parliament on April 28, new parliamentary elections were scheduled.
Results
As in each of the ten previous parliamentary elections after World War II , the Christian Democracy (DC) party received the largest number of votes.
