Rafał Gronicz

Rafał Wojciech Gronicz (born May 9, 1973 in Zgorzelec ) is a Polish manager and politician . Since 2006 he has been the mayor of his hometown Zgorzelec.

Life

Gronicz was born in Zgorzelec in 1973. Between 1988 and 1992 he attended the Liceum . He then studied until 1998 at the Faculty of Marketing and Management of the Oskar Lange Business Academy in Wroclaw . He completed his studies in 1998 with a master’s degree . After graduating, he worked briefly as a commercial assistant at the pharmaceutical company Apexim Dolny Śląsk . In 1998 he moved to the management of the marketing department at PW Comfort , a manufacturer of precast concrete parts. Between 1999 and 2001 he worked as a marketing specialist at Przedsiębiorstwo Eksploatacji Wód .

In 2001 he began postgraduate studies in finance and banking, which he completed in 2002. Since 2001 he has been with PKO Bank Polski . Here he was head of the department for individual customers and the department for small and medium-sized enterprises in the branches in Zgorzelec and Bolesławiec until 2005 . In 2005 he moved to Deutsche Bank .

Gronicz had been chairman of the Citizens' Platform (PO) in Zgorzelec since 2004 . In 2006 he successfully ran for the office of mayor of his hometown. In a runoff election on November 26, 2006, he was able to unite 60.06 percent of the vote and thus prevailed against the incumbent mayor Mirosław Fiedorowicz ( Federation of Democratic Left ), although he won more votes in the first ballot. In 2010, Gronicz again won the second round of mayor against the same challenger as four years earlier. He received 56.29 percent of the votes cast.

Gronicz is divorced and has an underage daughter.
