Leopold Levi
Leopold Levi (born May 6, 1870 in Buttenhausen , Württemberg ; † August 2, 1968 in New York City , New York ) was an American manufacturer and association official of German - Jewish origin.
Life
Leopold Levi, son of the peddler Moses Levi and Jeannette, née Heilbronner, also worked in his father's profession after graduating from school until he began a commercial apprenticeship in 1867. After completing his apprenticeship, Leopold Levi was employed as an accountant in Hechingen and Stuttgart from 1892 , and from 1896 to 1938 he was a partner in the Leopold Levi textile factory in Reutlingen .
Leopold Levi was also a member of the Israelite Upper Church Authority from 1919 to 1941 , from 1930 to 1936 he held the office of President of the Israelite Upper Church Council in Württemberg, and in 1935 he was admitted to the advisory board of the Reich Representation.
After his company was confiscated by the National Socialists , Leopold Levi emigrated to the USA via Spain , Portugal and Cuba in 1941 , where he was a member of the Joseph ben Mayer Congregation in Bronx (New York) from 1947 to 1968 and of Jacob from 1958 to 1968 Schiff Center, named after Jakob Heinrich Schiff , in the Bronx.
