The Surkhrud (alternative spellings: Surkh Rod, Surkh Rūd) is a right tributary of the Kabul in the east of Afghanistan .
The Surkhrud rises in the Azra district of the Lugar province in the Safēd Kōh mountains not far from its highest peak, the Sikaram Sar . The Surkhrud initially flows through the mountains in a westerly and later in a northerly direction. Leaving the mountainous area, the river enters Nangarhar Province . It turns gradually east-northeast and flows along the southern flank of a mountain ridge. Finally, it flows into the Kabul River 6 km west of Jalalabad and 3 km below the Daronta Dam .
The Surkhrud has a length of about 110 km. It drains an area of 2650 km². The mean discharge is 2.7 m³ / s.
