Genova & Dimitrov ( Bulgarian Генова и Димитров ) is a German piano duo ; The full names of the two pianists are Aglika Genova ( Bulgarian Аглика Генова , born June 29, 1971 in Plovdiv ) and Liuben Dimitrov ( Bulgarian Любен Димитров , born October 12, 1969 in Russian ).

history

The duo was founded in autumn 1995 in Hanover. In the same year, the current ECHO KLASSIK prizewinners won the Bellini music competition in Caltanissetta as a duo who were only two months young at the time , the ARD music competition in Munich in 1996 and the Tokyo piano duo competition , and finally the Dranoff Two Piano Competition in Miami in 1997 .

The two Bulgarian- born artists of Greek descent received their first piano lessons at the age of five. They were trained in special music high schools for talented children and made their first public appearances with an orchestra at the age of nine. They continued their solo studies at the Sofia Music Academy with Julia and Konstantin Ganew. The artists have been working closely with Vladimir Krainew at the Hanover University of Music since 1993 . There they passed their final exams to become a certified concert soloist.

Genova & Dimitrov played at EXPO 2000 and the opening of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . The duo received invitations to the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and Rheingau Music Festival , the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival and the Schwetzinger Festival , the Gstaad Music Festival , MDR Music Summer, La Roque d'Antheron Piano Festival, Ravello Music Festival, Music Festival of the Hamptons and the Chopin Piano Festival ( Duszniki).

Orchestra partners of the duo are the radio orchestras in Munich, Hanover, Kaiserslautern , the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the New World Symphony Orchestra, the Savannah Symphony, the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, the Sofia Soloists String Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic, the Beijing Symphony, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Ukrainian National Philharmonic, the Cape Town and Durban Philharmonic, the Musica Viva Moscow, the Minsk Orchestra and the Polish Chamber Philharmonic. The conductors were Eiji Ōue , Ari Rasilainen , Alun Francis, Toshiyuki Kamioka, Leos Svarovsky, Wojciech Rajski, Robin Gritton and Alexander Rudin. In September 2006 Genova & Dimitrov performed with the NDR Choir Hamburg at the Lower Saxony Music Days.

In addition, the duo took part in international television and radio productions. In August 2005, Aglika Genova and Liuben Dimitrov were jurors for the ARD competition in Munich. The artists also lead master classes and workshops in the USA, Germany and South Africa.

In autumn 2008 Genova & Dimitrov became lecturers at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media , where they have been teaching a piano duo class ever since.
