The IC Gentofte is a Danish ice hockey club from the Gentofte municipality . The team has been playing in the 1st division again since 2018 .
history
During its general assembly on April 23, 1965, the sports club Hellerup IK decided to found its own ice hockey department . This first took part in the 1967/68 season in the game operation of the highest Danish ice hockey league . In the following decades, the team played regularly in the top division, where they could not achieve any major success. After a total of 31 years, the ice hockey department of the Hellerup IK went independent in 1996 for financial reasons and founded the IC Gentofte, whose professional team appears as Gentofte Stars. For the 1996/97 season Gentofte took over the place of Hellerup IK in the AL-Bank Ligaen. In the 1998/99 season , the team again achieved relegation in the league, but had to withdraw to the second-class 1st division for financial reasons . After several attempts, the club achieved resurgence in 2014.
In 2018 the club did not receive a license for the Metal Ligaen due to a lack of sponsorship income and withdrew into the amateur area (1st division).
