Sir Geoffrey Doyne Adams KCMG (born June 11, 1957 ) is a British diplomat .

Life

Geoffrey Adams studied Islamic history and Middle Eastern politics at Eton College , where he was a King's Scholar, and at Oxford University . He joined the foreign service in 1979. He was employed in Saudi Arabia , France, South Africa and Egypt . From 2001 to 2003 he was Consul General in Jerusalem . From 2003 to 2005 he was the private secretary of British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw . He then served as Ambassador to Tehran from April 1, 2006 to March 2009 . He currently heads the Policy Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office .

He is Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG), and on Elizabeth II's birthday on April 21, 2008 , he was made Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG).
