Geoffrey Francis Archer

Geoffrey Francis Archer , KCMG (born July 4, 1882 in Kensington , London , † May 1, 1964 ) was a British colonial administrator and ornithologist who was Governor General of Sudan between 1925 and 1926 .

Life

Geoffrey Francis Archer, Bradley Archer's second son, was a nephew of Frederick John Jackson , who was also a colonial administrator and governor of Uganda between 1911 and 1918 . He worked in the colonial administration, dealt with ornithology and went on expeditions to Lake Albert , the Semliki and the Ruwenzori Mountains . He also undertook land surveys in Baringo County , hunted big game and wrote reports for the Royal Geographical Society . In 1913 he became Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) for his services . In May 1914 he replaced Horace Archer Byatt as Commissioner (Commissioner) of British Somaliland and remained in this post until October 1919. Subsequently, he was now in October 1919 first Governor of British Somaliland and held this office until August 17 1922, whereupon Gerald Henry Summers succeeded him there. Beaten on June 5, 1920 to Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG), so that from then on he carried the suffix "Sir". Geoffrey Francis Archer had been married to Olive Mary Godman, daughter of Colonel Charles Bulkeley Godman, since 1916.
