Geometry Dash is a computer game by the Swedish developer Robert Topala . The game was published by RobTop Games , a company founded by Robert Topala, and was released on the Steam platform in August 2013 for Android and iOS and in December 2014 for Windows and MacOS .

Gameplay

The game follows a simple principle: the figure is steered with a tap on the screen and you have to avoid various obstacles. As soon as you touch certain obstacles, the figure "shatters" and you have to start the level from the beginning. There are several modes:

  • Cube (green portal): With a tap on the screen, the cube jumps, which is only allowed to touch walls from the top and spikes not at all. Holding it down makes a series of jumps. (Based on "The Impossible Game") (Basic mode, from version 1.0) (Eng. Cube)
  • Ship (pink portal): Press and hold on the screen to make the ship fly. (added in Ver. 1.0) (Eng.Ship)
  • Ball (red portal): One tip is enough to change the gravity. (Based on VVVVVV ) (added in Ver. 1.2) (en. Ball)
  • UFO (orange portal): Tap to make the UFO jump in the air. (Based on Flappy Bird ) (added in Ver. 1.5) (eng.UFO)
  • Wave (blue portal): Similar principle to the ship, only with the fact that you fly straight curves at an angle of 45 °, which you can move up or down by tapping. Usually dies on contact with walls or obstacles, a block was introduced in 2.1 on which the shaft can also rest. (added in ver. 1.9) (eng. Wave)
  • Robot (white portal): Almost the same principle as with the cube, except that you keep jumping on the screen by holding down for a longer period of time. (added in Ver. 2.0) (eng. Robot)
  • Spider (purple portal): Same principle as with the ball, only with direct teleportation. (added in ver. 2.1) (eng.Spider)

The shape is changed with the help of form portals. Most of the levels are in sync with the music, so listen to the music while playing.

There are also other portals that do not change shape. These have an activation and deactivation portal. The following portals are available in this form:

  • Gravitation: Changes the gravitation. The portal for activation is yellow, for deactivation it is blue.
  • Size: Changes or shrinks the size of the player. The portal for activation is pink, for deactivation it is green.
  • Teleportation: Teleports the player. The portal for activation is blue, for deactivation it is orange.
  • Mirror: rotates the screen. The portal for activation is orange, for deactivation it is blue.
  • Double: it doubles the icon or other shapes. The portal for activation is orange, for deactivation it is blue.

There are also jump rings, which have a different function depending on the color.

  • Blue: changes the gravity
  • Purple / Pink: Small crack
  • Yellow: medium jump
  • Red: big jump
  • Black: Throws the figure down
  • Green: Changes gravity with a curved trajectory

With update 2.1 "Dash Orbs" were also introduced, which by holding down the player can "pull" a straight line in the direction in which the Dash Orb is pointing (green) and thereby also change the gravity (purple).

There are also the jump pads, they have the same colors as the jump rings and each has the same function. However, this does not have to be activated by tapping, as is the case with the rings, but the pads react automatically when touching the character.

Level

The game has 21 levels, 13 of which are playable in the lite version, all 21 in the full version. Each level has its own soundtrack. The songs for the levels were usually produced in advance, before the game was released.

The game has eight levels of difficulty (N / A included): N / A , Easy, Normal, Hard, Harder, Insane, Demon, and Auto. The grades N / A and Auto can only occur in one online level. The level editor can only be used in the full version. The game includes the following levels:

  1. Stereo Madness (Easy / 1 Star), song by ForeverBound 5
  2. Back on Track (Easy / 2 Sterne 1 ), song by DJVI 5
  3. Polar Spirit (normal / 3 stars 2 10 ), song from step 5
  4. Dry Out (Normal / 4 Stars 2 ), song by DJVI 5
  5. Base After Base (Hard / 5 Stars 3 ), song by DJVI 5

  7. Jumper (Harder / 7 Stars 4 ), Song of Waterflame 5
  8. Time Machine (Harder / 8 stars 4 ), song by Waterflame 5
  9. Cycles (Harder / 9 Stars 4 ), song by DJVI 5
  10. xStep (Insane / 10 stars), song by DJVI 5

  13. Electroman Adventures (Insane, 10 stars 3 ), song by Waterflame 5
  14. Clubstep (Hard Demon, 14 stars), song by DJ-nate 6
  15. Electrodynamix (Insane, 12 stars), song by DJ-nate

  20. Deadlocked (Hard Demon, 15 stars), song by F-777 8
  21. Fingerdash 9 (Insane, 12 stars), song by MDK

There is also a simpler version of the game, which is free and based on Update 2.0. The version is called "Geometry Dash Meltdown". The following levels are included:

  1. The 7 Seas (1 Stern / Easy), song by F-777
  2. Viking Arena (2 stars / normal), song by F-777
  3. Airborne Robots (3 Stars / Hard), song by F-777

There is also Geometry Dash Subzero, which is based on the upcoming 2.2 update. The following levels are included:

  1. Press Start (3 stars / normal), song by MDK
  1. Nock Em (4 Stars / Hard), song by Bossfight
  1. Power Trip (6 stars / Harder), song by BoomKitty

There is also a song that is not used for any level. This is called "Stay Inside Me" and comes from OcularNebula. The song can be heard in Practice Mode. In the beta there was a song called "Ultimate Destruction"; it was composed by TMM43. The ultimate destruction level was later divided into the levels Stereo Madness, Back on Track and Base after Base. Ultimate Destruction can later be used as a song through the Custom Music function in online levels.

The songs are mostly 2 to 5 minutes long in the original, but the levels are only one and a half minutes long. This is because the songs are severely shortened. Every song, with the exception of the songs composed by DJVI, Fingerbang by MDK and the songs of the 3 Meltdown Levels, can be downloaded for free from Newgrounds . Fingerbang, the three Meltdown songs and those by DJVI can be downloaded or purchased from Bandcamp , SoundCloud and YouTube .

1 The level was originally introduced as normal
2 The level was originally introduced as hard
3 The level was originally introduced as a harder
4th The level was originally introduced as Insane
5 The level is playable in the lite version
6th Is unlocked when you own 10 Secret Coins

9 Because of the vulgar name of the song, the name is changed to Fingerdash

Difficulty levels in online mode

There are also levels of difficulty in online mode. The following are available:

  • N / A (no stars)
  • Car (1 star)
  • Easy (2 stars)
  • Normal (3 stars)
  • Hard (4 to 5 stars)
  • Harder (6 to 7 stars)
  • Insane (8 to 9 stars)
  • Demon (10 stars)
  • A gold ring around the level of difficulty shows that the level was previously "featured".
  • A flame around the level of difficulty emphasizes particularly good level design, this level can also be found in the "Hall of Fame".

Most online levels have a difficulty rating that can be voted on by the community. Some levels are "rated". There are also “featured” and “epic rated”: These levels were discovered by moderators. The levels of difficulty can only be changed by RobTop himself, but the moderators can send levels with a level request to RobTop.

In version 2.1, the demon levels were also given several levels of difficulty, which are differentiated as: Easy Demon, Medium Demon, Hard Demon, Insane Demon and Extreme Demon (all 10 stars).

The Challenge

The Challenge is a secret level that is only available in the full version or Geometry Dash World. In the Vault of Secrets you can play it after entering the code "The Challenge" as soon as you have at least 200 diamonds. The level is around 30 seconds long and was used in Geometry Dash World as a preview for the spider mode.

Chests

Chests were added to the game as part of the 2.1 update. Wooden chests can be opened every four hours. They contain about 20–50 so-called orbs (the currency in the game with which you can buy icons, crash effects, trails or colors for the game character) and about four to ten diamonds. Gold chests, however, are available every 24 hours. These contain around 50–200 orbs and 10–30 diamonds. There are also other chests in the so-called "Treasure Room" that can only be opened with a key, the "Demon Key". As a rule, you receive a demon key every 500 orbs, which you collect by completing levels. Occasionally, however, Demon Keys can also be found in the wooden chests and gold chests, which are available at the intervals mentioned above.

The chests, which are opened with the Demon Key, can contain orbs and diamonds as well as new icons. As soon as you have opened 50 chests, a bonus chest is available, as well as when you have opened 100 and finally 200 chests. With the 2.11 update, new golden chests have been added to the Treasure Room. In order to be able to open one, five Demon Keys are required, accordingly these chests also contain a larger amount of orbs and diamonds. They can also contain other icons.

There are a total of 248 chests in the Treasure Room, including 48 gold ones. Each chest can also contain so-called "Shards of Power" with a low probability. There are five variants of this: Fire Shards, Ice Shards, Poison Shards, Shadow Shards and Lava Shards. If you have collected a certain number of a variety, a new icon will be activated. As with the Demon Keys, there are a small number of Shards of Power in the chests, which can be opened every four or 24 hours. The gold chests usually contain 1–2 shards, while wooden chests very rarely contain a shard.

Online functions

The game offers an online editor for building your own levels. In order to upload a level, you have to verify it first, i.e. play it through completely. In version 1.0 it was still possible to verify a level in practice mode, but with 1.1 this function has been removed. If you have built in usercoins, these must also be verified in order to be valid in the event of a rating. Once a level has been uploaded, it is automatically set to the N / A level of difficulty. The difficulty can be adjusted and thus changed by the community.

Some selected user levels are contained in so-called map packs. There are 65 of them with increasing difficulty from Easy to Demon. Each pack contains three levels of a certain level of difficulty. If you complete the map packs, you receive stars and additional secret coins

Since update 2.1 there are also the so-called gauntlets in addition to the map packs. These each contain five levels, which are thematically similar and mostly have the same level of difficulty. Currently (as of April 2019) there are 15 such gauntlets, two of which only contain demon levels. In contrast to the map packs, where all levels within a pack are immediately available, with the gauntlets the first level has to be finished to reach the second, the second to unlock the third etc. If the player completes all five levels of a gauntlet , he will receive a reward in the form of new icons, colors and crash effects.

A connection to Google+ is possible in Geometry Dash, and links to accounts on other platforms such as YouTube and Twitter can be created. By creating your own account, you have the option of making a backup for transferring between two or more devices or exchanging ideas with other players. Until October 2018, the game had Everyplay support. It enabled players to document their game progress or the complete completion of a level without an external recording program.

More game content

Three Secret Coins are included in each offline level. You can collect these to get new icons or to unlock the three demon levels. Apart from that, as already mentioned, each map pack offers such a secret coin, the packs which contain demon levels even two coins. A total of 149 coins can be collected. There is also a Secret Coin in the Vault and in the Vault of Secrets, as well as in the level selection menu: if you scroll through this three times, you can then collect another Secret Coin on the “Coming Soon Screen”.

Practice mode

The Practice Mode is suitable for inexperienced players to see the complete level, or to practice certain passages in a level. Here you can set checkpoints in the form of green diamonds by pressing a certain button; if you press the button next to it, you remove the last checkpoint placed. If you fail here because of obstacles, you continue the level from the last checkpoint. Here "Stay Inside Me" is played by OcularNebula.

Shops

There are three shops in the game where different icons, colors, etc. can be bought for orbs. The first is reached via the icon menu; there is a sign there. The other two shops; the Secret Shop and the Community Shop are at the end of the Treasure Room. These can only be entered if you have 500 or 200 diamonds. Compared to the other two shops, the Community Shop only contains icons that have been designed by users and selected as official icons by moderators.

Vault, Vault Of Secrets & Chamber Of Time

The so-called Vault was added in version 2.0 and can be unlocked with ten Usercoins. Coins and icons can be unlocked by entering different codes. In version 2.1 of the game, the Vault of Secrets and the Chamber Of Time were added.

In the Vault of Secrets, which is unlocked with 50 diamonds, new icons can also be unlocked by entering certain code words. There is also a door that you can open as soon as you have passed the "The Challenge" level. There is a trapped monster behind this door. It says that "RubRub" 1 lured them into this prison. Then three keyholes will appear next to the locked monster. If you find the keys, you can free the being. It then says it wants to destroy Geometry Dash. After it disappears, the Demon Gauntlet will be unlocked. Two of the keys you need are in bonus chests that you get when you complete the Chaos Gauntlet and open 50 chests in the Treasure Room.

To get into the Chamber of Time, the Vault of Secrets must be unlocked and the dialogue with the monster behind the door, in which the monster explains how to get to the keys, must be over. If you then go to the level selection menu for the official level, you will find the entrance to the Chamber of Time in the "Coming Soon Screen". However, this can only be entered if you have the so-called master emblem, which can be bought in the Secret Shop. If the chamber is open, there are some puzzles that are asked to the player. If he solves this, he receives some new icons and the third key to free the monster behind the door in the Vault of Secrets.

1RubRub is a nickname of the developer Robert Topala. The gaming community often calls it "RubRub", a reference to RobTop (the name of the developer studio).

Geometry Dash Lite

The lite version is a free version of the game. But there is no level editor, therefore no online levels, fewer icons and (currently) only 13 levels; but advertising. Since you cannot play online levels, there is no custom music or the vault. The lite version has the version number 2.2. But no further content is added, there are new levels, icons and achievements.

Geometry Dash Meltdown
