Georg Austrian

Georg Österreicher (* 1563 in Wiebelsheim near Windsheim ; † 1621 in Windsheim ) was a teacher and cantor in Windsheim.

Life

Georg Österreicher studied at the University of Wittenberg from 1585 . After completing his studies, in 1588 he became a collaborator at the Latin School in Windsheim, today's Georg-Wilhelm-Steller-Gymnasium . In 1608 he was appointed cantor in Windsheim. In 1614 he published a catechetical collection of songs, of which only a second, posthumously published edition of 1623 has survived.

Songs

From him is the first source of the first part of the melody of the song Who knows how close my end is to me! ( EG 530), the text of which was written by Aemilie Juliane von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
