Georg Adam Kreß (born June 22, 1744 in Fellen ; † July 26, 1788 in Langenprozelten ) was a German schoolmaster, cantor and composer .

Life

Born in 1744 in Fellen, Lower Franconia, Georg Adam Kreß was married to Margaretha Kallenbach (1746–1789) on September 30, 1765. He worked as a schoolmaster, cantor and composer of piano pieces in Neustadt am Main . At that time the place was famous for its Benedictine monastery and the church music of Father Peregrin Pögl (1711–1788).

In the period from October 1777 to March 1778, Kreß met Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during his likely visit from Father Pögl and Neustadt. The foreword to the piano sonatas published in 1942 speaks of a "happy, musically stimulating get-together between Mozart and Georg Adam Kreß [...]".

In 1779 Kreß moved to Langenprozelten as a schoolmaster, where he died in 1788.
