Georg August Cuckoo
Georg August Kuckuck (born December 18, 1767 in Steyerburg, Stolzenau , † July 18, 1841 in Hildesheim ) was major general and city commander of Hildesheim.
In 1829 he founded the institution for the deaf and dumb in the city, which today as LBZH Hildesheim belongs to the state education center for the hearing impaired . Classes began there on February 15, 1830. Up until the boarding school opened nine years later, all the students lived in the director's house.
On December 12, 1834 he became the first honorary citizen of the city, in 1905 the Kuckuckstrasse in the north of the city was named after him. For obvious reasons, his descendants changed their name to Walden .
