Georg Belwe

Georg Belwe (born August 12, 1878 in Berlin ; † May 12, 1954 in Ronneburg ) was a German typographer , type designer and teacher.

Live and act

He was born as the son of the office secretary Alexander Belwe in Berlin, where he initially trained as a lithographer . Belwe received his artistic training at the educational establishment of the Royal Museum of Applied Arts in Berlin . a. with Emil Doepler . In 1900 he opened the Steglitzer workshop with Fritz Helmuth Ehmcke and Friedrich Wilhelm Kleukens . Much of his work was created for publishers such as Paul List , Reclam , Eugen Diederichs and Westermann .

He initially taught at the Berlin School of Applied Arts . In 1906 he was appointed to the Leipzig Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade , where Fritz Richter was one of his students. He was particularly concerned with artistic book design and advertising.
