Georg Danek

Georg Danek (* 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian classical philologist .

Life

From 1976 to 1982 he studied classical philology at the University of Vienna (Magister phil. 1982). In 1986 he received his doctorate. From 1984 to 1997 he was a university assistant at the Institute for Classical Philology, Middle and New Latin at the University of Vienna. In 1996 he completed his habilitation, and in 1997 he was appointed associate professor.

In 2002 he received the Ausonius Prize from the University of Trier . In 2004 he was elected a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , since 2008 he has been chairman of its "Commission for Ancient Literature and Latin Reception", and in 2009 he became a full member of the Academy.

His main research interests are in comparative literature ( Homer and the South Slavonic hero song ) and ancient Greek music .
