Georg Fischer-Elpons or George Fischer Elpons or Jorge Elpons (born September 7, 1866 in Berlin ; † July 9, 1939 in São Paulo ) was a German-Brazilian painter and art teacher who settled in São Paulo, where he met the painter José Wasth Rodrigues and the sculptor William Zadig founded a painting and drawing school.

biography

Elpons first studied in Berlin and five years in Munich, where he stayed for 23 years, and went to Brazil in 1912 . After a short journey through the Amazon , he went to São Paulo. Immediately afterwards he took part in the second Brazilian exhibition of fine arts in 1912/13, which took place in the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios de São Paulo (LAOSP). He exhibited three works there, all of which had vases with roses as their motif. The state government planned to purchase one of Elpons' "roses" for the collection of the Pinakothek . The painter has obviously accepted the offer made to him for 500,000 old Réis (today around 182 Real ), as the painting can now be found in the same state art gallery.

His students included the well-known artists Emiliano Di Cavalcanti , Tarsila do Amaral , Anita Malfatti , Nicola Petti , Hugo Adami and César Lacanna . The painter chose “ still life ” as his main subject for his pictures , initially also flower pictures. Nevertheless, some rare works of landscapes are known. The impressionism that emerges in many of his pictures gives an indication of his German roots.
