Georg Fraberger

Georg Fraberger (born December 10, 1973 in Vienna ) is an Austrian psychologist , author and motivational speaker who was born without arms or legs. He works as a psychologist at the General Hospital of the City of Vienna as well as in his private practice, is married and has four children.

Disease and treatment

Fraberger was born without arms or legs. For the first two years of his life he was treated in Vienna and later in the Contergan Center in Heidelberg , although his mother did not have Contergan during pregnancy. What led to his disability is unclear. One possible reason is that his mother, as a nurse in a children's ward, accompanied the little patients to x-rays to calm them down.

Study and job

In 1994 he began studying psychology at the University of Vienna with a focus on clinical and developmental psychology , which he completed in April 2003 with a master's degree .

In 2000 he completed his psychology degree in Vienna. He then lived for a year in Somerset, England, where he worked as a psychological assistant for patients with traumatic brain injuries and stroke in a neurological department. Upon his return in 2001, he began his doctoral thesis on the concept of quality of life, which he completed in 2007. Since then he has been working at the Orthopedics Department of the Vienna General Hospital as a clinical psychologist.

In 2013 he wrote his first book “Ohne Leib mit Seele” and works as a lecturer and motivational speaker. In 2014 the book "A Pretty Good Life" was published.

In his lectures he talks about happiness as a concept of life and the question of what makes a person and a good life.

Private

Georg Fraberger grew up in Vienna with two siblings. His family allowed him to lead a normal life and never saw his disability as a problem. He attended a normal kindergarten, then briefly a school for the disabled and later graduated from the commercial academy.

He is 112 centimeters tall and 39 kilograms. He wears a prosthetic arm on his right side . With his wheelchair , which he controls with his foot attached to his hip, he can move himself to a height of 1.80 meters in a few seconds.

Georg Fraberger is married for the second time and has four children.
